Violence Against Women: Finding Safety and Support

If this is happening to you, you are not to blame. You deserve safety, support and choices. You do not have to decide everything today.

In immediate danger?

Contact your local emergency services now, if it is safe to do so. This page cannot provide emergency help.

What violence can look like

Violence is not limited to physical injury. It can involve sexual coercion, psychological harm, threats and controlling behaviour by a partner or former partner. You do not need to prove that your experience is “serious enough” before speaking with a specialist service. Read the World Health Organization's 2026 fact sheet.

The WHO estimates that nearly one in three women globally have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from a partner or sexual violence from someone else during their lifetime. This is a global population estimate, not a prediction about any individual.

A next step can be small

Nobody can tell you the right pace or the right decision for your life. These are simply options other women have found useful — none of them commits you to anything.

Tell one safe person

Consider talking to someone you trust, or to a specialist service that supports women experiencing violence. You choose how much to share.

Use a safer device if you need to

If someone might be checking your phone, tablet or computer, consider looking for help from a device they cannot access — a library computer, a friend's phone, a work device.

Consider a personal safety plan

A safety plan is a private, practical plan for what you would do in different situations. It works best made together with a specialist service — the US National Domestic Violence Hotline offers a guide you can read quietly: create your personal safety plan.

There is no universal instruction to confront someone or leave immediately. A specialist can help you think through what is safer in your situation.

A note about your device

Using the internet and your devices can be monitored by someone with access to them. The Quick Exit button below leaves this page immediately (you can also press Esc twice anywhere on this page), but it does not clear your browser history or remove traces of your visit — nothing you click here can do that. If monitoring is a concern, learn more about clearing your search history and other tech safety tips, and consider using a safer device as described above.

You deserve support

Hope does not require you to have a complete plan today. A conversation with a specialist, when it is safe to have one, can help you see choices that are hard to see alone.

Clarityroom is not an emergency service and does not provide counselling or domestic abuse support. This page offers general information only. The organisations linked above provide specialist information and support.
